Self-Test Error 0501xxxx indicates that your GS believes it is stuck
in Slow mode.

A common explanation for this error is that a user has a Zip-GS
accelerator card plugged in and the card's "Counter Delay" parameter is
set to OFF.

The Good News is that OFF is the factory default setting for
"Counter Delay" and is, generally, accepted as correct because the Zip-GS
should run a tad faster. The Bad News is that Counter Delay must be set
to ON in order to pass the GS Self-Test.

If you are running with a Zip-GS accelerator, try setting Counter
Delay to ON and repeating the Self-Test. Counter Delay can be set via DIP
switch 1-4 on the Zip-GS card.

Note: If Zip.CDA is in your SYSTEM/DESK.ACCS folder, you can check the
status of Counter Delay after boot-up via the Zip-GS CDA display. Press
OpenApple-CTRL-ESC to get the usual CDA Desk Accessories menu.
Select "ZipGS Control'" and, then, select "Misc. Settings". You can
also change the status of Counter Delay and other parms here; but, these
changes will not be remembered after power is turned OFF.
