One problem with it is that even if payment is not required, you usually cannot download them without JavaScripts and a compatible browser.

The games themselves are quite a mixed bag. I've had some good ones and I've had some that have been in a barely functional proof of concept state. Definitely some of those nonsense games you describe on there.

any alternative? I mean, I know Steam, but is there anything you should definitely check out?

โ€” https://gog.com

Started out as "Good Old Games" but since they are a general game store it is now named GOG.

Doesn't need a program to download the games, just a browser, but has it's own app with automatic updates for the games (Windows only).

Second for GOG. They are also anti-DRM. Not a big deal to some but I consider it a big deal philosophically.

I publish many games there. I like it.

I want to publish to gog as well, but I find their process a little weird.
