I live in the tropics in a rural area surrounded by banana and coconut trees. Arrowroot and rice fields are nearby. 🌴🍌
If the grid goes down my neighbors will survive. The ones in town with flowers on their balcony will have it rougher. I like flowers but prefer the edible ones!
@Satch thanks for starting this subspace 😎

Beautiful! Farming in the tropics is a whole different thing. Bananas and coconuts sound amazing….

Every place I have been in the tropics, there have been neighbours growing something: mangoes, bananas, papayas, pineapples, avocadoes, starfruit, chilies... and of course a hundred different herbs. Always best to have a little land, but even if they're in the city, they always have a row of concrete pots or styrofoam boxes stuffed with something edible.
The best thing is when we go visit the local Baha'i centre, where they use a little vacant land for a native garden. Along with the aforementioned, they get guavas, watermelon, soursop, custard-apple, ambarella, loofah, beans... and then our friends in not-so-far-away places send us dragon fruit, pomelo, mangosteen, and jujube.
