Thanks to the beautiful people on BBS, I was able to find a direction for my capsule.
I redid the front page as well, to make sure my new content is more available.
Manuals are an odd thing, I started collecting them, as I found out they often can help fix obscure problems or give information on how to fix an item, without having to open it up.
Manuals are often hard to come by in digital format as well, which makes it difficult to search especially large manuals. I would love to hear from anyone who has obscure/hard to get manuals, so we can digitise and list them. The story behind the manuals would be appreciated and are a fun bit to go along with it.
I've always loved vintage cars, cars in general really, I've even been wanting to create my own EV. Rare vintage vehicles is something I would love to hear about and help document though, so please reach out if you have any stories or information.
My idea to create an EV is now a couple of years old, it is proving to be difficult regulatory wise, the demands for vehicles is ridiculous to the point of excluding anyone that isn't already making cars or have a lot of money to throw at it.
I am still trying, as I believe it is part of what we need to mitigate the environmental disaster that is BEV's. They get heavier every day, to increase the range, due to peoples inability to have a mental shift. The EU is even considering increasing the weight of cars to 4,25T, to allow heavier BEV's.
The weight of current BEV's is so high, that the eMotor efficiency, is being offset by the extreme mass. If we compare a recent Tesla Model 3 with a recent VW Golf Variant hybrid, the vehicles have a 400kg weight disparity, that makes the Tesla 28% heavier. With charging and discharging losses, most BEV's are only looking at a 15-20% CO2/range savings, if the power was derived from the same fuel. To add to the pain, the VW has more cargo space and is allowed to carry 600kg, as opposed to the Teslas 400kg (better not drive with 4 adult males).
Mind you, I am putting Tesla in the best possible light here, VW's own ID line, is even more ridiculous and the large Tesla models are up there with the ID line. Like the ID4 (a mid size SUV), is only 164kg shy of a Toyota Land Cruiser, a massive beast that doesn't even belong on roads.
My general idea, as cars on average have 1,5 people in them while driving, why not make a BEV with a small battery, that doesn't weight much above half a ton, with 2-3 person seating capacity. It would be very possible to get 100km+ out of a vehicle this size, at country road speeds, without needing more than a 10kWh battery pack.
While my idea feeds into consumerism and puts the weight of responsibility in the wrong place, it is pretty obvious by now that the politicians will burn the planet to the ground, to make a dime and that won't change.
So I hear the ideas of removing commutes, making city centers more dense and free/cheap public transit. That would be putting the blame in the right place too, with greedy megacorps and politicians, the only problem being, they simple do not care.
The game of capitalism, only works, if you keep playing. To keep you playing, you need a mortgage, two cars and jobs/commutes that run you too far down, to think about the status quo.
