It's spooky season! The leaves are falling, inflatable pumpkins and ghosts are starting to take over lawns, and entire sections of stores are taken over by candy (and Christmas decorations...) set in purple and orange boxes. Spooky season has always been my favorite. Hockey season also starts soon!
To start off spooky season, I made a spooky remix of the portrait I have on my business cards and as my website's favicon!
I have some plans for this month and I'm excited for them!
Starting the night of the 15th and lasting for 3 nights is Winter Nights! I wrote about it a bit last October. It's basically the new year celebration of the religious year that states the beginning of Winter. As the moon phases shift around year over year, Winter Nights can start anywhere from October 7th to November 4th. At least for me, it's a time for making oaths and respecting those who came and left before us. I also plan on deleting my Mastodon account at the start of or right before the first night of Winter Nights.

I'll probably (but no promises) write a post going over last Winter Nights' oaths along with this year's oaths.
Assuming temperatures are low enough around the 15th, I plan on making Supper in a Pumpkin, a tradition I enjoy quite a lot every October/November. That will result in me having a decent amount of cooked pumpkins and pumpkin seeds, so the plan is to make roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin bread on the 16th and pumpkin soup on the 17th. I'm not sure if I'll do essentially the pumpkin soup recipe linked below or if I'll go for a "creamy black bean pumpkin soup". If I go for the black bean pumpkin soup, I'll add the recipe to my site for sure! I even saw a recipe for a pumpkin turkey chili that I'm interested in trying at some point.
One of my favorite activities during October is watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" with friends. I try to watch a few other Peanuts movies with friends throughout the year, although schedules frequently get difficult to synchronize. Hopefully the Great Pumpkin actually shows up this year! It must be so difficult on Sally to miss out on trick-or-treating every single year with no payoff of seeing the Great Pumpkin.
I have spent wayyyy too long trying to read "Look Me In the Eye - My Life With Asperger's" by John Elder Robinson and am only 110 pages away from finishing it. It's been long enough and I just need to finish the dang thing already so I can be happy that 2024 has at least 1 book added to my "Books Read" page...
