After having a chance to play Pokémon Rescue Red/Blue I now realize that Pokémon Rescue DX is a continutation or adaptation from that earlier series. I hadn’t heard of the Pokémon Rescue titles before this, so I was expecting it to pick up with the 3DS version of Pokémon or from the Mystery Dungeon series, but it’s more in line with the Rescue series from DS (and earlier?) versions. So no customizing paradise, you’re stuck in a house. The UI is very similar, (obviously minus a screen) and added the weird animated cartoon drawing look instead of 8-bit graphics.
I don’t know if I had the rom lying around or if it was preinstalled on the RG35XXSP that I was recently gifted. But I played Rescue Red/Blue on there some time after playing Rescue DX on the Switch. I didn’t make it far enough in either title to see how they’re any different. It’s not uncommon for the DX titles to just be rebuilt for Switch and to have minimal new content, so no surprise there.
I probably wont keep playing either title. The new art style on Switch is somewhat uncomfortable – which is why despite having the title for a few months I haven’t been playing it – and I’ve mostly been exclusively playing Diablo/Hellfire via DevilutionX on the RG35XXSP.
