I used Checkpoint on the 3DS to back up my extdata so that I could move the saved game content from one 3DS to another. I ended up resorting to Filezilla as an FTP client to get the files off the 3DS, otherwise I’d have had to pull the SD card (screwdriver required for “new” 3DS) copying them manually to a PC, and then copying them onto another, insert that into the target 3DS, and run checkpoint to load the data.
I tried to use the venerable command-line FTP client, despite it’s lack of tab completion, and even if you use quotes, it seems to mess up on some non-English characters. mget also seemed to ignore the lcd and tried to pull to the same local as the entire absolute remote path.
I tried to use WGET, but the arguments changed since the last time I used it, and like the command-line FTP, it also had issues with some of the characters in the target file names.
I didn’t resort to CURL, I’m pretty sure I used that the last time I needed to move data from a 3DS, but I couldn’t remember the arguments and I apparently didn’t make any notes on it last time.
So, like some kind of caveman, I used FileZilla and had to drag a mouse around to get it to do my bidding. At least I managed to move my data over. I’ll definitely have to find a better way in the future, far too much of a manual process.
