Quantities of cannabis totalling β¬4,500 were found in the search of a
flat in Cork city almost two years ago and now the man who was in
possession of the drugs has been fined and given a suspended jail term.
Judge Mary Dorgan said: βIt was a significant quantity of drugs.β
However, the judge said she was going to impose a non-custodial
sentence because the accused man, Charlie Gibbons, had no previous
convictions, pleaded guilty, and presented clear urinalysis. Solicitor
Frank Buttimer said the matter had been adjourned a number of times for
verification of the clear urinalysis, and this was now available.
The search dated back to February 14, 2023, when the home of the
28-year-old β a flat on Washington St β was searched.
The search warrant was executed after 6pm on that date.
The cannabis was found in various quantities in the flat and, when
arrested and questioned, he made full admissions.
Judge Dorgan imposed a four-month jail term suspended on condition that
he would keep the peace for the next two years on the charge of having
the drugs for the purpose of selling or otherwise supplying to others.
The judge also fined him β¬550 for having the cannabis in his possession
for his own use.
He was given seven months to pay the fine.
