October 2024

Single logs from this month:

06 October

20 October

October marked the end of my observation season for this year, meaning that observation trips from late October, 2024 to approximately late March, 2025 will occur at irregular intervals and usually with a focus on a certain species/state, such as the eggs of Satyrium sp. and T. betulae.

Species that already were seen in September and returned:

Despite my hopes and promising weather conditions, there was no "Golden October" in terms of butterfly encounters, in fact I made noticeably fewer observations compared to October, 2023, where I. lathonia and P. icarus remained active up to two weeks into the month. This year's frosty April now has become even more noticeable, with the amount of V. atalanta being significantly lower than during previous years due to the lack of rotten fruits.

Right now I'm not looking forward to next season, considering the observations I made on the 20th revealed some incredibly-poor communication on behalf of my municipality. Even if it's more of a personal rant, it is advised to read it, as the current measurements will have a significant impact on my research.

Now with the season having ended, we're entering the "off-season", where only monthy summaries granting more of an overall view on my study areas will be shared.
