THIS ARTICLE STILL IN PROGRESS
After re-theming my neocities site, I wrote the following on the 'about' page:
So, what to put on this new website? Collections! Collections of collections! What else are websites, really? I began to think of my project here as becoming a dragon hoarding information rather than gold. And sharing it, of course. So maybe not very much like a dragon. But the image stuck so much that when I wanted to change the aesthetic of the site from pastel to dark, the idea of a digital cave seemed like a pretty natural direction.
I want to elaborate on that. Disjointedly.
Website is usually one word, right? I separated it into two because I thought it sounded funny, like an alien was encountering the concept:
"Of course, a Web Site! A place of interconnected paths!"
I then realized that this funny-sounding thing was less of a joke an more of a literal description of a website. Obviously, it was time for unneccessary abstraction.
As mentioned above, shifting my site to darkmode and shifting my identity to information-hoarding dragon led me into thinking of my website as a cave system.
