(200 grams) butter
(1.5 deciliters) sugar (125g)
(4.5 deciliters) flour (270g)
(2 teaspoons) baking powder (10ml)
(3 tablespoons) dark syrup or molassesa (45ml)
Combine flour and baking powder and syrup. Cream the butter and sugar until very light. Combine the flour mixture with the butter mixture and mix thoroughly. Roll into 6 snakes 2cm thick on baking trays and then flatten each slightly into long rectangles. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until slightly browned. Cut into diagonal sections while still hot. Cool on a rack.
