DEV BLOG - Week 40 of 2024

Sunday, September 29th

I have been pleasantly surprised. SDF went ahead and validated me, and now I can actually do things. I'm so stoked! It's nice to know that in a week or so when I purchase the ARPA lifetime plan, I have something that I can use as a home base from here on out. I mean, I know that I have all my other stuff, but it's good to have some of the free things and be part of a community.

We have decided to resurrect the domain for Yr Olwyn, since it hasn't been used in a good long while, and I'm not seeing the amount of information out there that I would have hoped. That makes it imperative to populate the underground with the things that may not be so popular soon. Right now I am building out the capsule and pushing it up to git so I can get it down once I launch the server. Doing the same with gopher. I'm putting the documents and more read-y pieces on the capsule, and the files like PDFs and stuff on the gopher. If you use the right browser (Lagrange) then you can view both with the same thing.

I also plan to use RSS on the gopher side for sites that I think deserve to be fed. To that end, I also am considering an E-Zine for that site, since that was the original intent of that site.

We have another move tomorrow, and while I was excited, now I'm back into the blah. So, after they fired my good boss, I got another that I wasn't quite so happy about, and now we're getting back to why. I get a message asking why I came in an hour early on our last move, and had to remind him that I had told him the answer to that question just two messages prior. I don't have a good feeling about this, and if he does what I anticipate he will do, which is to tell me to not come in early anymore, the chaos we just resolved will be right back.

These people spend more time trying to fix the things that aren't broken, and less time addressing the actual broken shit that I'm amazed we're all still here.

If you try to fix any of these things on your own, you have to remember that no good deed in this company goes unpunished. I'm trying to focus on some of my own stuff right now to normalize again.

Update: He did the opposite of what I thought, so I am most grateful and realize that I may have a tame version of PTSD from this company, which still leads to other questions.
