Summer Hotel

I usually try to escape for a week to a hotel on the beach so I can enjoy a few days of total relaxation. Many would go to the Caribbean or something like that, but being in Spain, I prefer to go to one located on our own coast, just an hour and a half drive away. It's practically the same and I save a plane trip!

One of the little things I like to do in these places is to simply observe people. Couples with and without children, old and very young people, people from other countries, families large and small, people in great physical shape or with obvious illness... I always wonder what stories are behind each one, and consequently, it makes me reflect on myself. What story projects the image of me and my family?

Please understand me, it's not that I care what anyone thinks of me. It is an exercise of pure curiosity, trying to highlight those cognitive shortcuts, of intuition, that we project when reading in the image of others.

I realize that for a person with a different pace of life than mine, this exercise will be stupid (a person who is working in front of the public for example), but for me, who lives in the studio for hours and hours with very little human interaction, it's all a little more exciting. Having moved to a residential town doesn't help much either.

It's a socially awkward situation at heart. Rest in capitalism. Everyone takes and enjoys vacations as they want or as they can, and here I see that there are people who come for pleasure and people who come “forced” (by their partners, family, etc.). I worry about not having the will to rest as much as I should.

I worry about not being able to do anything but work.
