The world ended in 2020. It was sudden, but some knew it was inevitable. There were hundreds of written accounts from the 1920's, but nobody listened to them. In 2120's, the remaining survivors cling to scattered bits of hope. All across the world, people describe their stories of fear, hope, and resilience; slivers of truth from the devastation and horror. This capsule documents countless eyewitness and first person accounts of three distinct time periods, 100 years apart, describing the horrors, emotions, and strenghts of humanity. Sometimes we don't realize the worst thing we can endure is not demos, or otherworldly entities, but ourselves. Through the inital whipsers of during the roaring 1920s, the first contact and end of times of the 2020's, and the futuristic wasteland of the 100 years of destruction in the 2120's, we will take you in the twisted journey of despair, horror, and hope.
The concept of this project is inspired by SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect: a collection of cursed objects, places and people), cosmic.voyage (a tilde community who writes about their space travels in their ships), and Dungeon23/24 (a daily writing challenge for the contents of a DnD'ish dungeon).
This project was originally started as just a writing prompt: 100 word stories over 100 year time periods. It took a turn after a couple of stories started to orbit around a Lovecraftian cosmic horror genre. This would be a collection of stories in the established universe, written by members of the community during the 3 time periods:
During this time period, there are whispers and sightings of what is to come. There are no direct manifestations, but visions, writings, and odd happenings. Every day there are more and more accounts of people across the globe describing what they perceive as supernatural or evil.
The 'present day' in our universe is filled with manifestations of different entities from all cultures. Aliens, Chupacabra, and Demons. All manifested from the one entity who would devour all. Hell on earth is unleashed. Societies and governments fall. Humanity finally faces extinction.
In the aftermath of the destruction, humanity hangs by a thread. Survivors give accounts of life after the end. As resilient as we are, there is still hope and we've found use for new technology, 100 years of terror, and a new way to come out on top for the better of the species.
If you would like to contribute, there is no experience necessary. Write your stories and submit them. Writing is a powerful undersused art medium that is being replaced by videos and social media. The only way to flex the writing muscle is to exercise it. Please do not submit AI generated content. This is a collaborative creative writing exercise. 100 words per story (give or take 5). Keep the integrity of the time periods, and do not cross the line into gore / pornography / senseless violence.
