Frustrated: Amazon seems to have become my go-to seller of Christmas gifts this year. Books still on site, but electronics and toys for the kids almost exclusively online. What's about you?

Even chain retailers advertise stuff that's online only with store pickup at some future date. It's all the hassle of going to the store with all the waiting for getting it shipped. Frankly I want to support local business but I have the same problems as hansbrix. The local stuff is very expensive for cheap made in China junk. Toys especially fit this description. ยท 2 hours ago

I took a chance this year and bought some knockoff Lego sets on aliexpress... we'll see how it goes when they finally arrive. (I've normally been pretty loyal to the Lego brand, but this economy really had me scrambling this year). ยท 3 hours ago

It occurs to me that the availability of many many new products online shifts our expectations of what's "good enough" ... if we weren't aware of this stuff, we'd buy the best one a the local store, and probably be happy. ยท 3 hours ago

This also frustrates me. I love the selection the many online retailers have. I distrust the delocalization of it all... it tends to dislocate communities and blur local distinctives until we're atomized economic units. Don't care if you're a commie or a capitalist, that's bad. OTOH, I have access to quality i'd never have had before, so that's nice. ยท 3 hours ago

It's because you can't get anywhere physical anymore. I went to a toystore, to get a scooter for my kid, they had one model, it was overpriced plastic junk, that would break the first time it gets used.

Online I found several in the right colour, in aluminum, with screw on locks, instead of the plastic snap pins. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ยท 9 hours ago
