So uh, politics, eh? A certain insurance CEO, perhaps? A vindication of public class consciousness, even? Oh boy, what leftist euphoria.

@half_elf_monk Oh, I agree- I don't like that society itself is in a position where this kind of thing is seen as universally positive, but here we are. The person who died represents a system wherein his personal involvement results in deaths easily counted in the thousands. It's just abstracted away. And hey, multiple health insurance corporations walked back on their decision to limit anaesthesia access, so this act has already probably saved lives, plural. Oh, the stock went up, too. Seems this is good business? · 1 week ago

It opened some pent up anger people have at their insurance companies. Like the time I needed surgery for a broken elbow about 12 years ago. I get the surgery and come home. I get in the door and feel sick from the anesthesia so I run to the toilet. My wife sees a message on our answering machine. It was the hospital. The insurance company denied the claim for the surgery I just had. The denial came while I was on the table. The moment of throwing up while hearing I'm on the hook for ~$85,000 is a moment that is seared in my memory. Dealing with that is months of stress and pain I will never forget. They paid for most of it, but not without a huge fight. · 1 week ago

Kinda scary to live in a world where people get murdered in broad daylight. "Thou shalt not murder" is a good commandment. I don't know anything about the guy who got murdered... I'm sure he's guilty of something (Everyone is. Some people are simply more effective sinners than others). Yet given the vitriol and demonization one hears online against corporate types as a class, and the... stability of those who say it, I'm surprised this hadn't happened already. · 1 week ago
