I'm not very interested in bureocracy. I am interested in progress. And I am interested in results.
The cost of remedial work at the property is reported at £60000-70000 by the surveyor.
In the UK, the government dumps the cost of elderly parents onto their descendants, simply because they are of no further economic value...
Due to the condition of my mother's house, the cost of clesring her rubbish (she had a hoarding problem), clearing the gardens front and back, rewiring, redecorating, refurmishment.... The cost is signigicant. As is the time and stress involved.
Elderly parents are a ruddy pain. They cause needless problems, are a liability to themselves, ignore advice given for ther own safety, waste our time, cost us money and elevate our stress levels. And on top of all this, they see themselves as having the right to disrupt out lives.
They just neither know nor understand that my generation are just too busy thrashing around trying to survive that they lack free time and energy to devote to their children, let alone their parents. And ironically, it is the policies of those who they voted for like sheep for decades who made life as brutal and expensive as it is! Yet another benefit of leaving the 'Tory Run State' for a new life is having free time for our friends and families. And yes, I plan on having a new family. Some say I am an 'alpha male', others say I am brave to begin a new famiy at my age. But the way I see it, it's my life, my rules. I am not interested in conforming to the stereotypes of other (often older) people. And having survived situations which could have ended my life, why should I not make the most of the years remaining?
You only live once. We are all dead people if we wait long enough! Since we only live once, what is important is what you do with life while you have the chance.
Therefore I have gone with Rightmove, who only buy at 80% of market value, but cover these costs, as well as solicitors and marketing, and the sale can in theory be completed in 1-2 weeks (not months of wrangling, people dropping out, etc). I am a busy man, and I do not have the time to market the house the traditional way. And I CERTAINLY do not have the finances to pay for the cost remedial work - and next week I am expecting to - finally(!) get my apostled documents deleivered and I can get my Z (work) visa to teah in China. The decision to appoint Rightmove follows consultation amoung those I hold dear, and whose own futures will be affected by the decisions taken. And the ladies are desperate for progress too.
The kind of problems that make me the angriest are those which are entirely preventable...
Sounds like progress? Not yet....
The damn solicitor appointed by Rightmove, however, is insisting on having photo ID for my mother. One problem: a 19th century woman like my mother doe not HAVE photo ID. She has not been abroad since her 20s, and not been on the road since before she was married. So why in the name of Jesus would she HAVE a modern passport or driving licence?! Alternatively, I could use her birth or marriage certificate IF I cam manage to FIND IT in a house vacated by someone with a hoarding problem and living knee deep in rubbish. If the rats have not chewed it up anyhow!
Now, I will have to visit her home for one more time to get her photo album and some other items to her (things of sentimental value), and I will desperately try to find these damned thigs, and something as proof of address.
Why do they put us through this hell? Becuse of money laundering laws. Yet, a hard nosed realist knows that these laws only impact the criminals for as long as it takes them to find ways to get around them. What all these regulations really DO achieve in the long term, is to make life hell for normal, law abiding people who need to get a job done.
Besides my wanting to leave here for other vested reasons anyhow, this would be one of a number of reasons why I would never, ever comtempate opening a business in the UK. The cost of compliance, the time wasted and accompanying stress is yet another obstacle to success.
