This week into Geminispace has been very addictive... 😁
I am seriously thinking to set aside all the HTML stuff...
Between BBS and Station there is plenty of interaction.
I found, or rediscovered, the Geminispace is more engaging and less distracting, there isn't anything to consume so you don't waste time scrolling for nothing...

i would also say: try xmpp.
there are oldschool clients like pidgin, there are lots of interesting chat rooms.
it is not possible to know about all existing chatrooms, but this server tries to collect information about those:

@norayr instant messaging is not exactly the same thing as a bulletin board or a "social media"; and I am not really interested in such way to communicate.
However, almost every day I connect to an IRC Gemini chat, so personally this area is already covered... 😉
@freezr for some reason I hadn't considered joining an IRC channel about gemini, even though I have started using IRC a bit. So now that you mentioned it I found the one on libera.chat. Is that the one, that you are using?

movim is written in php, and it has a fancy web interface.
libervia is written in python, and has not only gui, but also a minimalistic console client.
