QUICK LIST OF PROS AND CONS BETWEEN THE WORLDWIDE WEB AND GEMINI:
Gemini PROS:
Distance from all the ad-driven content pushing, fake-news bullshitting, politically driven, conspiracy-ridden, INSERT LITERALLY ANYTHING INCONVENIENT material on the internet. The internet overwhelms me sometimes. Sorry. (I mean I’m sure there’s some of this on Gemini, I haven’t really tried to look for it because why would I?)
Simple to use! It was intimidating to approach such a thing as Gemini, but I figured it out the same night I was anxious to begin. May sound far-fetched, but a dog could use GemLog.Blue and post “woof woof”. I’d comment “woof” back.
It’s not the mainstream! I may sound like a hipster, but I like how there aren't a lot of people on Gemini. I was able to get my joshjavier username (I’m lucky enough to have @joshjaver on Instagram, though!). Because there aren’t a lot of people on Gemini, I feel as if the community is still tight-knit. I’ll be doing a post about my favorite pages and you’ll see why.
Someone once called it “The Dork Web” (refer to the article on the previous post).
It’s text-based! Which is also a con, but it's also beneficial for a writer like me. It makes things simple and forces me to focus on pen-to-page creating. I wouldn’t be surprised if I wrote a whole book on Gemini.
Gemini CONS:
It’s text-based! Which is also a pro, but also deficient for an artist like me. Not seeing any pictures scares me. I feel so incomplete without juicy pngs and jpegs. I need mindless designs and hip icons. I NEED IT.
Not a lot of people are on it! Which was also a pro of mine, but I found myself feeling a little secluded. I’m sure this is just a beginners-thing for me as I haven’t dipped my whole foot in Gemini just yet.
It’s a build-it-yourself type thing! Which is weird, because the internet is too. I think what I mean is that Gemini is a bare-bones type developing playground that favors computer science people. I’m not that guy! The skeleton structure of Gemini can be rewarding, yet intimidating. Like the article said: “It’s not perfect, but it’s there for those who want to build it.”
The content on Gemini is pretty niche! People post interesting articles, but I don’t really cherish them like I do on Google. There are some cute, free-fun Gemini pages, but that’s where it stops. I have yet to find pages that stick with me. More on that later.
Transitioning from living life on the internet to Gemini is tough! I still haven’t really gotten used to its intricate functioning.
Internet PROS:
Dog and cat videos! They’re all I live for nowadays!
I’m used to it!
All of my daily activities required the internet!
So much possibility.
I get to connect myself with people from all over the world.
Internet CONS:
Everything about it!
