WITH judging now complete, ten groups have been selected as wildcards
to compete in the 2024 Limerick Going for Gold Grand Final.
Over €60,000 will be distributed to communities in a range of
categories in this year’s competition.
A total of 15 groups will now go forward to the grand final. These
include the 10 selected wildcards and five groups selected by public
vote.
The full list of finalists is as follows: Askeaton, Athea, Ballysteen,
Broadford, Castleconnell, Feenagh, Garrienderk, Glenroe, Glin,
Kilmallock, Kilmeedy, Kilteely, Patrickswell, Rathkeale and
Rockhill-Bruree.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran praised the efforts of communities across
Limerick, saying: “Congratulations to the ten wildcard finalists. Your
dedication and hard work have truly shone through in what was an
exceptionally competitive year. The passion and commitment displayed by
community groups and residents' associations across Limerick make this

He continued: “I want to acknowledge the ongoing support of the JP
McManus Charitable Foundation and the media partners, who work with the
Council to deliver this unique competition in Limerick each year. I
look forward to celebrating the Grand Final.”
Judging took place across three categories: Going for Gold Tidy Towns;
Limerick Bee Friendly in Bloom; and Residential. Whittling the entries
down to ten wildcards was a challenge for the Going for Gold judges,
Michael Griffin and Pat Shearin.
The grand final of Limerick Going for Gold will take place in the
Limerick Strand Hotel on October 23.
The judges have also added some new awards to recognise the excellent
work undertaken by volunteers across Limerick.
