A CONTRACTOR is being sought to construct a new bike lane on the city’s
northside.
The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) will be linked from
its Moylish campus to the city centre via a dedicated lane for those
who travel on two wheels.
It will be routed via the High Road in Thomondgate and also incorporate
Thomond Park stadium.

city site
The works will include segregated cycle lanes and footpath upgrades
along Cratloe Road, Sexton Street North and High Road, along with a
number of dedicated cycle and pedestrian crossing facilities.
An inbound bus lane extending along the Cratloe Road from the Moylish
Roundabout to Hassett’s Cross will also be provided, along with upgrade
works to bus stops, side road junctions and road surfacing.
Green Party TD Brian Leddin has welcomed the fact the development has
moved to tender.
“The project serves as a crucial link in Limerick’s active travel
network, improving connectivity across the northside. Once completed,
it will connect into the existing lane on Brookville Avenue that leads
out to Jetland and Na Piarsaigh grounds. The project will also
incorporate the works at Gaelscoil Sáirséal on Shelbourne Road, making
it easier and safer for many families from Woodview, Brookville Gardens
and Coolraine Heights to cycle to school,” he said.
Mr Leddin also praised the work of residents in Thomondgate for
developing murals along High Street walls.
