Judge Philip O’Leary imposed a total sentence of four months on the
accused.

A 38-year-old man who had trials with Glasgow Celtic as a teenager was
jailed for four months for shoplifting and public order charges.
Frank Buttimer solicitor said Daniel O’Donovan of 129 Mount Nebo
Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork, had been “a really fine footballer” but
that life fell down when he returned to Cork following soccer trials as
a young man.
“He went on to battle alcohol and other substance difficulties,” Mr
Buttimer said at Cork District Court where Daniel O’Donovan pleaded
guilty to a variety of offences.
He said of the defendant’s most recent experience: “Going into custody
actually helped him a lot over the last three weeks.”
Judge Philip O’Leary imposed a total sentence of four months on the
accused.
On September 3 at St. Patrick’s Street he was found in possession of
stolen property – some of it down his trousers – to a total of over
€200.
On August 31 he stole over €100 worth of items at Boots at Merchants
Quay On June 29 he was caught shoplifting at Centra, North Main Street,
Cork.
