St Finbarr’s 1-22 Cloughduv 0-12

St Finbarr’s are through to the SE Systems Camogie Championship final

after a very impressive display against Cloughduv.

It means they'll take on the winner of Thursday's Sars-Glen Rovers

clash in the decider on October 13. It was a bit of sweet revenge for

the Barrs who were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Cloughduv

last season.

Overall there can be no arguing with the result as the Barrs were the

better side, despite the best efforts of the likes of Amy Sheppard,

Niamh McNabola and Lisa Lynch.

It was another quality display from the winners, with the defence

anchored by the likes of Aisling Egan and Meabh Cahalane, with Hannah

O’Leary and Emma Olden working hard in the middle of the pitch.

Up front any defence would have difficultly stopping the Barrs attack,

with Nicole Olden, Sorcha MaCartan and Orlaith Cahalane in top form.

Between them they got 1-17 of the Barrs total.

Orlaith Cahalane opened the scoring for the Barrs, with Lisa Lynch

replying at the other end.

Hannah O’Leary put the Barrs back in front with Cahalane getting her

second to stretch their lead.

Sorcha McCartan added another as they led by 0-4 to 0-1 after six

minutes.

A brilliant ball from Laura Buttimer set up Briege Corkery for

Cloughduv’s second point, before the Barrs hit seven without reply.

Cahalane got her third with Mairead Corkery making it 0-6 to 0-2.

Ella Wigginton Barrett added another, before McCartan was on target

again. Kate Wall and McCartan raised white flags as the Barrs led by

0-11 to 0-2 after 17 minutes.

Two frees from Lynch reduced the deficit, with Cahalane replying at the

other end from another free.

Lynch and Cahalane exchanged scores, to make it 0-13 to 0-5 after 24

minutes.

Barrs looked like scoring a goal but Ciara O’Leary saved well to deny

Hannah O’Leary as half time approached.

Late points from Amy Sheppard and Lynch narrowed the gap as the Barrs

led by 0-14 to 0-7 at half-time.

Credit to Cloughduv and as expected, they came out fighting at the

start of the second half and make it difficult for the Barrs.

Lynch reduced the deficit and her second, after 34 minutes, made it

0-14 to 0-9. She scored again two minutes later to put four between the

sides after a lively start to the half from her side.

Cahalane pointed with McNabola replying for Cloughduv, to make it 0-15

to 0-11 after 37 minutes.

Cahalane and Nicole Olden added points for the Barrs, before the

crucial score came that effectively killed off Cloughduv’s challenge.

Cahalane picked up the ball and beat several defenders to find the back

of the net to stretch their lead to nine points and it was always going

to be difficult for Cloughduv from here.

Lynch pulled a point back, but the Barrs finished strongly with Olden,

Keeva McCarthy and McCartan among their scorers as they ran out

comfortable winners in the end.

They now await to see who their opponents will be as Sarsfields and

Glen Rovers meet in the other semi-final on Thursday night at Páirc Ui

Rinn, throw-in 8pm.
