Paul O'Meara, 27 Sep
Five women, described as cousins, were prosecuted at Naas District
Court for theft at a supermarket.
Madalina Rostas, 25; Soneta Rostas, 27; Bianca Roastas, 23; Lamaita
Colaci, 30; and Florica Roastas, 21; with addresses at North Circular
Road, Dublin were prosecuted for an offence at the Maynooth branch of
Dunnes Stores on April 8, 2023.
Sgt Mary Meade recalled that a trolley was filled in the store at Manor
Mills.
Solicitor Tim Kennelly said the woman had a total of 12 children
between them.
Mr Kennelly said he did not think a prison term would be appropriate
and suggested that a decision on the case should be put off to see if
any of them came to garda attention.

The court was also told that none of them went to school.
When asked by Judge Desmond Zaidan why they had committed the offence,
they said through an interpreter they did not have enough money or had
a child.
He noted that the women were entitled to claim social welfare.
The court heard that Lamaita had eight previous convictions, including
six for theft; Madaline had 25 previous convictions, including 19 for
begging; Soneta had 23 previous convictions, including two for
attempted theft while Bianca and Flroica had no previous convictions.
Judge Zaidan bound each of them to the peace for a period of twelve
months. He added that if they misbehaved they could be sent to jail.
