The Naas Post Office premises is up for sale - but the full range of
services available to the public will continue to be provided there.
An An Post representative told the Kildare Now that there will be “no
change” as far as the public is concerned.
The South Main Street premises comprises a mid-terrace four-bay
three-storey protected structure, built around 1825 (the property is
listed) with an old telephone exchange to the rear. Originally there
were two three-storey houses (now interconnected) providing frontage
onto the main street.
The entire site occupies a quarter of an acre and according to the
selling agent An Post “will occupy the ground floor level fronting the
main street for retail purposes.”
It also indicates that An Post will take a lease on the ground floor
“while the rest of the property and site will provide development
opportunities.”
The Post spokesperson said: “What’s happening is that we are putting
the premises up for sale with the post office staying right where it
is. (There will be) no change for customers, who will continue to use
the local post office at its current location.”
The spokesperson said Naas is a busy town with a growing population and
“we are seeking to realise the value of the property and site as well
as opening up a significant development opportunity for Naas.”
It is thought that the guide price is in excess of €1m.
