Ciaran Mather, 27 Sep
Housing grant increases which are being planned by the government have
been welcomed by one Kildare-based Senator.
Labour Party Senator Mark Wall welcomed the latest announcement,
saying: "You will all be familiar that I have continually raised the
need to increase Housing Adaption and Housing Aid grants during my time
in the Seanad.
"Today at last, the government published the report that I was promised
almost three years ago; there must be an election in the air."
"I want to welcome the increases the report recommends."
The Athy politician continued: "The Housing Aid is set to increase to
€10,700 and the Housing Adaption is increasing to €40,000.
"The report also proposes [the] very welcome increase in the means
test.
"It’s important that these recommendations are implemented urgently...
I am aware of many families who could not complete the much needed
housing adaptation their loved one needs and the fact that many
families could not proceed with the housing aid grant."
Senator Wall concluded: "I promise to continue raising this important
matter and if you would like to discuss further, give me
a ring on 083-334-1488 or drop me a line to mark.wall@oir.ie."
