Not big enough for a gemlog, but too big to be forgotten. This is that place.
That funny feeling when you are an immigrant and go "home" on vacation and it all feels good and familiar but also slightly out of tune because all the little changes you don't notice happening when you stay in a place are bright and garish!
I don't speak Gaelic but got totally nerdsniped by a post I saw where someone was looking for cryptographers to break a coded letter written by their great aunt. Folks had already spotted it was a Gaelic language. I managed to drag myself off it, but only after posting then deleting a message asking about where the aunt was from. It suddenly struck me it was probably a honeypot, too many obvious gaps in the narrative.
Today I tied myself to a rope and climbed a 30ft wall. I've never put my life on the line of a knot I've tied before. Indoor climbing does push my comfort zone and makes me learn new things and earlier me wouldn't have done.
I need to write a full gemlog post about why the simplicity of Gemini and the SmolWeb make it accessible. I looked at hosting a website on the pi alongside the Gemini server and was stunned at the bloat and over complexity of serving a static HTML page.
After failing to get Yunohost running on a small form factor PC I decided to go a step smaller and launch a Gemini server on a Raspberry Pi Model B from 2013 that was tucked in the back of a drawer. You can find the result here:

For years my wife has said I'm like the fearful yet forward thinking rabbit Fiver from Watership Down. Tonight as I was messing with the computer she mixed that name with Cyber and Fiber and dubbed me Fyber. It's not a bad hacker handle.
Rearranging of drain pipes and rain barrels completed before the tropical storm arrives this evening. Solarpunk realities.
Watched a music video on YouTube that I remember first watching via a cover CD on a PC magazine in the mid 1990s. It looks ancient, but then I guess I'm getting older too.
Slow recovery from illness is driving me crazy. I've not been climbing in almost 3 weeks. I miss the mental relief. I've started watching parkour videos and want to go for a run but that's at least another week away.
Created this space for those quick thoughts that need to go somewhere. Maybe I'll come back to them and expand them into gemlogs or other projects later, or maybe they will just have been said somewhere.
