In the end I did buy a laptop as a “digital personal shrine” (sounds a bit grandiloquent actually). It is the first time in a long time that I buy a computer that is not for work, at least not strictly. I have bought a Lenovo i5 with 16Gbs.... It is very light, and the battery lasts a lot. The screen is no wonder, nor does it have a network cable socket, but I feel it gives me a lot of freedom!
The truth is that I've been trying for quite some time with the iPad, but... it's just not for me. The fact that the software ecosystem is so closed, it's quite counterproductive. Saving and organizing files is cumbersome, and almost all the apps seem to be purposely limited so as not to be 100% functional.
I've opted to put Windows 11 on it, despite some of the problems I've been having lately, but I just don't feel like embarking on the endless quest for the perfect Linux audio setup, really.
Another day we'll talk about the phasing out of Google services... Abandoning gmail and drive is the last hurdle, but I'm afraid it's something I have to do sooner or later - preparing for it is essential so that it won't pose any serious problems in the long run!
