i've enjoted the past six months on gemini
~t r e m e n d o u s l y~
it's been a truly cathartic online experience
i've got to the point where i'm mostly hanging
around gemini somewhere or other
i've also pocked my head into the gopher hole
as well, meaning to explore there more too
lately i've gotten more and more fed up with
the mainstream <anything> when it comes to
content
reading much more offline
zines, scrawlings in bathroom stalls and
the side of brick walls
it got me thinking to dig deeper into
the all things decentralized
so...
what are some excellent nooks and crannies
you guys have found?
inquiry just pointed me to
https://void.si3t.ch/
which fits into this ethos great
just little off-kilter places
the places that defy convention
give me those
sweeet, sweet links
;D
i enjoyed gemini for a season
but after not too long realized
protocol doesn't matter as much
as i initially hoped it would
participants either "do it for me"
or they don't
is the best - not to mention safest - summary
I think https://bus-stop.net/ also has a similar premise like that site.
I don't mind playing ennui police.
Just wish there were more coppers....
something that made a big impression on me in 2018 or so, was a post on Write.as called Tunneling For Text by a guy who called himself Slackz. Blog is long gone, but I dug up the entry on Wayback Machine if you have an e-mail I can send it to in plaintext. I don't want to re-post it online, even if I'd be giving him credit (privacy matters)
Talking about rediscovering Jabber, IRC, Gopher, etc, and reclaiming personal time/space on the Web. Really motivating article, and I think that is what kicked off the interest I had (still have) in decentralized services, as well as older protocols, etc.
My e-mail is in my profile if you want to send first e-mail.
