Captain's Log Stardate 20240820 - Changes regarding Outpost-7 and arrival at the Midnight.Pub colony...

Captain Sl0th's Log

Entry - 12:35

Over the past two days we have made some changes to our initial plans of Outpost-7's location. In lieu of Outpost-7 being located in Geminispace, we have opted to relocate the outpost to Onion (Tor) space. This would address our security concerns, since the techonolgy used to access Onion space is a type of phase-change technology, where the "normal" space coordinate of the outpost is obfuscated by a virtual coordinate. In other words, travelers that have the virtual coordinates (*.onion address) to Outpost-7 will not know the "noraml" space coordinates (IP address) of the outpost. In this way the other "normal" space services offered by the outpost are less likely to be directly targetted by bad-actors. Also, this makes it possible for us to share what certain regimes may deem "controversial information" (fake news, disinformation, etc.) without bringing harm to any Geminispace colony. If the Onion space security measures were to fail, then only we would bare the consequences.

Understanding and adapting the Onion space access technology (Tor Service) to our outpost systems took a better part of the day, since the documentation failed to mention certain caveats. Engineering tells me that they would like to perform an in-depth study of the system changes prior to releasing the Onion space virtual coordinates of Outpost-7 to travelers of "normal" space and Geminispace to ensure the security of the outpost. They have assured me this is something they can accomplish while we continue on our mission of exploration through Geminispace.

As we made our way through Geminispace, I ordered the crew to revisit the copy of the Geminispace creator's archive we currently have on-board the Dinghy and look for any other entries about technologies similar to the Lagrange system. They have found two, Kristall and Amfora, which have been succesfully integrated into our systems. Initially the Kristall technology failed to properly integrate due to a conflict with our system that was brought about by the build process (a novuveau driver issue). However, we discovered a pre-packaged version (AppImage) at "xq's," (the creator of Kristall) "normal" space outpost (website) that was not available at the source outpost/colony (github), which solved the conflict. Now the Kristall technology is working without any problems.

After our arrival at the Midnight.Pub colony we discovered that registration at the colony is forbidden without a key, which must be requested from the owner and takes an untold amount of time to receive (if it is granted at all). We visited another two outposts (flounder.online and smol.pub), but encountered a similar situation. We may return to these outposts again in the future and make a formal request, but for now we'll continue to other colonies/stations.

We had better luck gaining access at an outpost that is simply known as "Station." Entry was granted almost instantly after creating an identity at the outpost's registrar (using Lagrange's ability to generate TLS client certificates). Another outpost known as Bulletin Boards in Geminispace (BBS) also granted us partial access, while we wait for complete approval. I have ordered away-teams to both of these outpost to explore their facilities further.
