Agreed. That was thought provoking. Somewhat related, but Bluesky stood out to me as this odd thing. When musk took over the bird site, you had two camps: all the cool people went to Mastodon, whereas the tech-illiterate/influencer people migrated to Bluesky. I've honestly never visited the site though, so I might be way off base.
I get the impression that Mastodon etc. was just too *different*, and that people with marketing teams want something familiar (in this case a carbon-copy of Twitter).

I was on Bluesky relatively early on, and in the initial beta it was like a very limited userbase Mastodon that looked exactly like twitter. Then the Musk takeover drove a lot of people over - and it became terribly toxic very quickly. Almost all content I encountered was centred on hating on something - usually Musk. It got boring.
