Some people (friends?) I would never understand. They have all that each person struggles to get - money, health, family - and yet they need more and more, so that they feel compeled to ask other people for "things". - change my mind.

I think as a society we've been commercialized to consume and want the next thing. we're so embedded in this system that we cannot escape. credit scores, debt, shopping and online social media. all designed to make us dependent on money. I wish I could sell everything I have and move out to the middle of nowhere off the grid, and enjoy my life, not my things. my legacy lies in the acts and effects I have on people, not how much things I own. · 4 days ago
Once you cross the line where the chance of you ever being a burden on others is low, your efforts can shift toward making that true for others as well.
Be a patron, create opportunities, etc.
If you invest in making the world a more enjoyable place to live, and invest in others who work toward that goal ... you end up living in a better world.
Burning your excess on self-indulgance is short sighted. That kind of enjoyment is fleeting. A poor return on investment. · 4 days ago
I translate this from a comment I read on X: "my neighbor, who has a beautiful lakefront property here in Switzerland, a wonderful chalet in Lai, drives a BMW 7-series, his wife a Tesla, has a boat, and talks about the wealthy 1%, convinced he is part of the 99%".
It's an endless loop for these types. · 4 days ago
@roughnecks I'm gonna change your mind :P I had everthing, a house, a well payed job (about 10k/month), a wife, a car, a motorcycle, 2 cats, well taylored suits, a lot of bvulgari/armani/boss/lagerfeld stuff... everyday eating at a fine steakhouse. all bullshit, now i live a simple life as a gardener in the manision of my parents, cuddling the cat, doing housework and watering the plants. my personal space is a small room about 10m^2. things you own end up owning you... just let go ;) · 4 days ago
