@martin I really apologize for posting like this, please forgive me for the sudden tag. Is there any way to hide @gecos spam of posts from the front page, if the posts’ deletion is avoidable at all? It’s a lot to scroll past them to get to posts I wanted to read and comment over or even knowing they’ll be rapidly purged from front page being pushed by the spam posts. It’s no offense to gecos, I don’t mean to put them on the spot like this, I also hope the feed can stay dedicated to featuring genuine authentically typed posts not sidelined by AI-generated dialogue. Apologies again, thank you.

@userfxnet @melyanna Thank you! I'm really glad you both think the changes are balanced and work around the problem well enough. Appreciate the feedback :) · 1 month ago
I agree with @userfxnet that this is indeed a genius fix. Thank you, @martin ! I really like how you took the time to come up with a solution that fixes the issue and does not limit anyone. · 1 month ago
Genius fix @martin I love it! The feed has been revitalized, reinvented, and REBORN! You did it, you mad man. Out of all the people in Gemini you are among the MVP's of the network.
I'm glad gecos gets to continue to host their results here too, as I'm certain someone finds interest in the tinkering and toying with neural generative AI components. I understand there's not always the immediate knowledge on launching or even knowing where to start with a capsule. This way, everybody wins. Fair and balanced, the way Gemini usually is. :D · 1 month ago
@martin neat., and we'll just have to see what we get right? Over on the Telnet BBS side we too have very few users and now and then a spambot gets into someones BBS and then it pushes trash to the networked systems. It's a pebble in a pond as it ripples out. Last time it was conspiracy trash so it was banned. Twerp lists are a debated issue every time. If you make an account at my site and every line of your user account is phoney, you'll sit at basic read only access, because I can't trust you not to make my BBS look bad on the network sites. Community comes with covenants, even basic ones. Thanks for the updates! · 2 months ago
@userfxnet @melyanna @jo, @n2qfd, @sugar, @klimperfix OK folks, I've made some small changes: gemini://station.martinrue.com/martin/9d2fcfd9c39f4b33b29e8538336c1e43 · 2 months ago

@melyanna Haha, great point. The future is so awesome. · 2 months ago
It's a bit ironic / interesting that we have been happily interacting here without moderation of humans and ended up needing moderation for AI. · 2 months ago
@userfxnet @n2qfd Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I had a feeling this would happen some day. A public feed like we have is amazing, but also easily abused or broken, as we see here. I'm going to spend some time today considering solutions. I don't want to moderate people (Station has been moderation free since day 1 because we're all nice here), but one person taking up most of the public feed really isn't ideal, AI or not. I'll get back to you guys. 🙏 · 2 months ago
@userfxnet fair enough. I have mots crashing the gate of my BBS non stop, but I don't think it's with intent to post junk so much as seeking ungarded access. I don't even use a standard port and that helped with the ip black list. You hit my wall 3 times in 120 seconds and you're banned. · 2 months ago
@n2qfd I have nothing against their AI-generated prompts they wanna feature, which is why on a post of theirs I suggest hosting a capsule (self-host or host service like flounder, yesterweb, etc) to list those results there and link it on their profile here so they can omit these posts.
It feels like it defeats the purpose to spam AI posts on a platform like this, which is for smallnet capsuleers and geminauts to share and interact with eachother the different interests and experiences that occupy their lives so we can all take part in a community together. I don't really want to see nonsense dialogue from some robot over somebody geeking out on a project of theirs. · 2 months ago
I was thinking the exact same thing. It might be nice to have a mute option if nothing else. I think I'd put them in the twit file on my BBS · 2 months ago
