is there a Gemini based messaging app? We’ve got station which is more like a microblogging service and there are also several IRC like systems. Is there anything more akin to email or SMS messaging on Gemini? Seems like it could be a fun weekend project.

someone by the name of @lem around here has apparently so far successfully written up and executed a protocol that does as such called misfin · 1 year ago
I've got a small tool for receiving messages on my capusle · 1 year ago
@gritty It's not a portal, but a smol social network thingy with a Gemini frontend which speaks ActivityPub under the hood. DMs are basically "unlisted" posts with only one user in their list of recipients. It's very new and I think it has <=2 active users. · 1 year ago
I think for chatting you should use the respective protocols, like IRC, xmpp, matrix, etc. That is what they are made for! · 1 year ago
@dimkr I thought there was a web interface but maybe not! · 1 year ago
@dimkr that's pretty neat. is it a Gemini portal to post on mastodon / activity pub? how many people use Gemini versus the web to interact with the service? · 1 year ago
I implemented DMs in gemini://hd.206267.xyz, but it's more like SMS and less like chat · 1 year ago
gemini://tilde.pink/~slondr/introducing-galaxy-chat.gmi might be something to look out for. the closest ive seen is astrobotany's letter system · 1 year ago

a couple people have mentioned it recently but I don't think anyone has invested into it yet. · 1 year ago
