I am interested in your opinion. I know a lot about edible insects from a scientific point of view such as ecology, biotechnology, distribution and trade, etc. pp. I have sometimes eaten something with insects myself, mostly muesli bars. Do you eat insects, do you cook with insect protein? Do you know people in your circle of friends who regularly eat insects? I haven't yet. Could you write your opinion on this? Thanks

I've had roasted crickets as a snack. They tasted mostly like popcorn. As I understand it, bugs are already part of 2 billion peoples' daily diet, so it's not like they're a new, untested source of nutrition for homo sapiens. Lots of right wing (they'd call themselves "freethinking," naturally) conspiracy theorists seem to be incorporating the push for wider consumption of insects, as part of the push to fight anthropogenic climate change, into their self-aggrandizing vortex of bullshit, though, so it seems we're going to have to deal with all sorts of new nonsense and hysteria on the subject. · 6 months ago

WHO, RIVM and RKI could eventually be better sources if you can digest the jargon. · 6 months ago

You should study the digestive system and what proteines are most easy digested by the human gut. We don't have the same bacteria as bird have in their guts. Our gut is more suited for fruit veggies and meat. For instance cat's can get very sick when eating large amounts of bug proteine. An occasional spider doesn't do mush harm. But replacing meat protein by mealworm proteine on a 1 to 1 basis can kill yout cat. A single caterpillar could kill you while tehre are birds who have that same caterpillar as their main menu..

So, why not let the birds eat the bugs, and then eat the birds. like we already do.

But some humans eat crickets without issues. · 6 months ago

In Germany, most insect-based muesli bars have gradually disappeared from supermarkets. It looks different online, but I can't remember seeing any in the last few months.

When I went to talk to a company that produces insect proteins, I had the following feeling when I entered the production hall: "The existing destructive food systems should not be replaced with equally harmful production methods for insect-based foods." Thank you for now. · 6 months ago

My biggest problem is it's pretty expensive in the UK as it's very niche to eat insects and the like. · 6 months ago

I've eaten crickets, mealworms and ants at a food show here in the UK once. I certainly don't have a problem with them and would eat the first two whenever on offer. The ants I'd save for survival only; I just found their acidity slightly unappealing. · 6 months ago

No, no, no and no for daily life, but personally I'm ok with it. I've eaten crickets before when I traveled. I've eaten fried mealworms as snack when I was a child living with my grandma.

I don't care about it is insects. The problem is: unlike mammal meat, insects are small, long and squishy. I can't really cook with it (I'm from Taiwan, so in chinese cuisine) and the mouthfeel is horrible unless you bake or deep fry it. Try stir fring and you'll throw the entire dish out.

I did some quick search on online marketpalces. Most mealworms are for pets and packaged like human snacks. I almost bought them.. · 6 months ago
