I have a weblog / blog that I keep for items that aren't really meant for Gemini, or things that I want my non-gemini friends to be able to access. I use WriteFreely on a DigitalOcean droplet which allows both federation via ActivityPub AND creation of a #gopherhole that mirrors all content. I of course enabled both.

‣ If you're not familiar with Gempub, it's basically a Gemini-compatible version of e-books that can be downloaded and read in clients like Lagrange

I am a big proponent of online privacy. While it's debatable about the amount of privacy that the Gemini protocol provides, the key feature of Gemini is that there is no monetization of data collection on this platform, nor will there likely be any of any significance. I love this design feature and is one reason that I was drawn to this protocol in the first place.

The Fediverse is collective term for services compatible with the ActivityPub protocol (social networking) standard [1]. There are other federation standards out there, but at this time, ActivityPub seems to be the most popular. If implemented properly, all ActivityPub-based projects can communicate with one another, and subscribe to other feeds. This means a person on Mastodon can follow someone on Friendica.

Popular ActivityPub / Fediverse platforms are: Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, Funkwhale, Peertube, Pixelfed, Writefreely, Bookwyrm, Misskey, Lemmy

If you're on Gemini, then chances are you know what a Tilde is - a publicly shared Unix-like system that folks can log into for personal projects, socialization and blogging / writing. I personally remember these as "pubnixes" from back in the day, and I'm not really sure what qualifies one as a "tilde", but I can say that they are definitely an organized grouping of pubnixes, sharing a few common services. Depending on the server you choose there will be a different setup, meaning different pre-installed software, client rules, and overall culture of the Tilde's citizens.
I personally like these tildes because they are great text-only, command-line communities, free of corporate influence and ovesight. I personally am on tilde.club and like it there, and I often randomly surf the gemini capsules of the members there. Sometimes I find a good capsule that I bookmark, sometimes there's not much there other than the standard boilerplate. You can check out the Phlogroll / Gemroll section for places I've stumbled across.
