So I made a certificate for this site, but I set it to run out in 5 days. What then? Is access to my account just lost forever. Seems kinda weird.

I'm very glad this feature is under development. Sounds like it won't bite us like Y2K :) · 3 years ago
Like this might be a long term issue with unreachable accounts. However, given how new this is, and how small it is, it amounts to little more than a thought experiment.
Like maybe for a "in 5 years, with extreme growth" scenario, which is not really a scenario to consider now.
Even if it should turn out to be a problem in the near future, there'll likely still be ample time to respond, long before it becomes a pressing problem. I would at best chalk it up to overengineering or a very low-priority feature. · 3 years ago
So this was actually more like a thought experiment, and not really a "support request". Glad to hear that if this was actually an issue for me, several solutions exist. :) · 3 years ago
Or, as your account is so new, just delete this one (to free up the username) and create it again with a longer-lasting cert. The only damage will be this post. · 3 years ago
@ethereal In this case I can make a manual fix for you, if you want to keep this account. 1. Create a new account with a long-lasting cert. 2. Then via this account, confirm to me the account name you created. 3. I'll switch the certs for you. This will eventually be doable by users, but it's not finished yet. · 3 years ago
@hyperlinkyourheart Unfortunately Station does not support this yet. · 3 years ago
I think you can associate a new cert with your existing identity. Not sure how though, I set all mine to expire in 2029. · 3 years ago
But does the account actually go away though? · 3 years ago
