Is there any way to get past a captive Web portal that requires Javascript on a Debian device that does not have a GUI Web browser? This problem is plaguing one of my laptops.

what is captive web portal?

😎 decant · May 30 at 01:43:

@norayr mostly wifi hotspots in airport or motel, when you connect to it, there will be a pop-up webpage pushed from the router that makes you click a box agree to some bullshit agreement.

@norayr a web portal imprisoned in a Gulag

I regularly encounter this problem... once on one particular obscure network I did manage to set something up to grep out the necessary codes and make the right request, but every such network seems to use a different horrible system. Maybe we should have a database of scripts to do it, like libquvi has for video hosting sites. But I don't know of any such project.

Well, I don't know much about captive portals, but turns out the Wikipedia in their article, has a few explanations in how they work and ways you would be able to circumvent them.

Often VPN’s can punch through. Give it a go.
