Garage Decluttering, Take 2

Something is living in my garage.

I think it's a rabbit. That's small comfort: the poop is round, and small. I'm very familiar with what rabbit poop looks like, because the critters are often in my backyard, in my vegetable garden, or hanging around the bushes out front.

And I say "I think" because the droppings are smaller and harder than normal, not the bigger rabbit pellets I usually see outside. So maybe it's not? But it's not the shape you get with a mouse or a vole, either.

So if I'm mostly sure what it is, I'm not sure how it got in there, other than that I usually keep the garage door open when I'm mowing the front lawn, so maybe it ran in and found a nice, dark place to hang out. And lots of food? We think it was eating the grass clippings around the lawnmower, and was maybe even squeezing under it to get some of the stuff that dried up and attached itself to the shell, but we're not sure. I cleaned that up last week, and have since seen droppings in the bucket I use to hold birdseed (which is, uhhhh, nice). So I chucked that too, both seed and bucket.

This week has been round two of trying to figure out what this is and get it out of the garage. Last week I caught a glimpse of it as I was moving boxes to try to find it - a flash of movement, and it scurried back and I couldn't find it again. I searched for probably another hour, and then told myself it may have found a way out of the garage that was out of my sightline, since I had the door open while I was doing all this. Apparently not.

This is sort of exhausting! I just don't want anything living in the garage, and I especially don't want pellets all over the place, either. Tonight I pull everything out, again, though this time the plan is to move everything into the driveway, rather than just pile things in the center of the garage. Hopefully this time I can find it and chase it out. Then tomorrow I haul another load of Stuff to the dump. I have to admit: one side-effect of this is the garage hasn't looked this good since we moved in. And with all the stuff going to the dump, there's probably less in there than there was all those years ago. I think it might even look better.
