I got a new tablet

I've been putting off the inevitable task of replacing my 2010 tablet... I hate buying new things but it was barely useful as the battery lasted less than an hour, and the OS was so old most apps refused to be installed. And the replacement is: Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, for just over $100.

I am not a fan of google, and spent most of today teying to minimize snooping and tracking, a rather hopeless endeavor. But, at least symbolically, I opted put of whatever I could. I even replaced the keyboard, which calls home with devil knows what. This will probably be an ongoing losing battle.

On the positive note, the device is great. The screen is perfectly sharp and bright, and it's plenty fast in spite of being a 'low-end' tablet. I don't need a fast gpu as I don't plan to run modern games, and this thing has no problem with video. I have yet to notice any kind of lagging.

SSH

I installed ConnectBot, and created an SSH key. After adding the new public key to my 'authorized_keys', I can post here from my tablet. That makes it much easier to gemlog and keep an eye on SpellBinding when I'm on the road.

Vice emulator

I was surprized that there is no android version of VICE commodore 64 emulator. Version 3.0, an old version almost works, but crucially, the cursor navigation keys do nothing, making it impossible for me to write code in Turbo Macro Pro right on the C64...

Actually, a bunch of keyboard mappings are off, which could mean that I could fix the issue with a keyboard config file. On the other hand, hitting F12 brings up the emulator menu inside the c64 screen, and that sees the cursor keys. That is discouraging. I also have no idea how to see what codes come out of the keyboard, but there ia an app for that somewhwre I am sure.

Lagrange

The most beautiful browser is flawless.

What else do I need? Nothing today

Anyway, I am happy with my new toy even though it is powered by the devil. At least it is not an Apple device.
