I still work remotely, and feel blessed for that. Well. Technically my contract says one day a month in the office. So my coworkers (most of whom, being developers, have opted for similar arrangements) have all sort of decided to coordinate our mandatory one day a month, and after we scan in at the office, go out for lunch somewhere nice.
Yesterday that was a little Vietnamese restaurant, the kind of place that looks faded and worn down, but the food's amazing. We all settled in, ordering pho, spring and salad rolls, deluxe vermicelli, Vietnamese coffee, tea and water. Lunch ran a bit late, as it often does, given there's usually a dozen of us. But it was really nice to see people, all of us griping about the commute, but happy to see each other.
After a brief cold snap in late February, we're back to around-freezing temperatures, and in the morning, like today, there's a heavy fog lingering over everything. I take the dogs for a short walk around the neighbourhood, and there's a pervasive dampness. No hoarfrost sadly. But it's okay. This is March weather, this is the herald of spring. We might get a few days of cold, but the worst is over. Winter can't hurt us anymore.
I'm not sure how much longer we'll have snow, or even if we'll get much more. Apart from a recent big dump, it's been a fairly dry winter. It's probably rain at this point, a couple of months of browngrey weather before the weather turns green and everything else with it.
We're already talking about next month. Thai, maybe? Our office situated kind of out of the way, not in the most socioeconomically advantaged area of town, but one where there's a lot of great little restaurants. We agree. I'll get the pad thai, medium spice; my friend will order similar, extremely spicy; maybe next time, like the last time, the grandmother will come out, call him an idiot, bring him a pitcher of water.
