Starting Chess

For a while now I've wanted to get into gaming. I've never been a big gamer, my peak probably being around the time Modern Warfare 2 came out and I was in highschool. I am terrible at games, my reflexes are just not up to the task of quickly reacting to what's going on. Because I sucked so much I just stopped playing and instead started watching on both Twitch and YouTube.

I've been trying to find games that I could get into but to no avail. I booted up my first generation PSP and got some games for that, but I didn't find myself reaching for it at all. I downloaded Steam and again couldn't be bothered to even open up the app. At that point I just resigned myself to being a non-gamer for life.

That was until I started watching more chess on Twtich. I know how to play chess but, like all other games, I'm absolutely terrible at it. However, I sucked it up and created a chess.com account and starting taking lessons and playing bots. I found that I was quickly starting to see the board better and enjoying playing, even when I was losing.

Another way chess seems promising for me was that I didn't have to sit in front of my computer or TV to play. I could download the app on my tablet and just kind of lounge around and play while doing other things. Sure, that means I'll probably lose more as I'm not as focused, but frankly I don't really care that much.

I'm already hooked and looking to learn more and more. I think chess is the game for me and I can finally call myself a "gamer".
