UISCE Éireann has assured customers that “there has been no impact on
the quality of drinking water” after an incident at Castlemahon Water
Treatment Plant in west Limerick.
On Thursday, Limerick Live reported that an investigation was underway
after a fish kill on the River Deel.
It took place in Castlemahon that morning with local fisherman Joe
Hurley saying it was “shocking”.
“The whole river is destroyed. There's trout floating everywhere. We
don't know how many fish have been killed because the pollution has
been going into the river for hours and the fish float away down with
it,” said Joe, who took a photo of dead trout on the riverbank.
In response to a query from Limerick Live, a spokesperson for Inland
Fisheries Ireland said staff were at the River Deel on Thursday
afternoon and “investigating the scene".

incident at Castlemahon Water Treatment Plant in recent days.
“The relevant bodies have been notified and Uisce Éireann is
cooperating fully with Inland Fisheries Ireland in relation to the
investigation.”
Uisce Éireann added that they “would also like to assure the community
there has been no impact on the quality of drinking water”.
