A woman has been honoured for her trojan work with various groups in

the Belgooly area, with the monthly Cork International Hotel Community

Spirit Award.

Nicola Desmond, PRO of a number of charities and organisations,

including the Belgooly Tidy Villages, Kinsale Garden and Flower Club,

and the Cork Summer Show, has been unveiled as the latest recipient of

the award.

Ms Desmond, who’s been working with Pfizer for the last 35 years, has

been praised for her unwavering dedication to her local community and

her tireless efforts in providing services for locals.

Ms Desmond has been instrumental in the organising of fund-raising

activities for the restoration of the Friary Church in Kinsale, as well

as her involvement with their annual trip to Lourdes.

The Belgooly native is also responsible for the popular bingo events

held locally for various different charities, and was recently involved

in putting together the Belgooly Festival, which brought a mix of

entertainment to the area for families to enjoy.

Ms Desmond has credited the network of people around her, including her

family, with helping her do all her volunteering work.

General manager of the Cork International Hotel, Eoghan Murphy said:

“Nicola has been immersed in the activities of her local community for

years and never says no to helping any charity or organisation with

their fundraising efforts.

“It is our great pleasure to honour her with a Community Spirit Award

to recognise her dedication to her area and she is a worthy recipient

of the monthly award.”

The judging panel for the Community Spirit Awards is made up of a

mixture of representatives from the public and private sector within

the community.
