APPEAL: Donations sought by GAA club located near Kildare-Wicklow border following theft incident

Ciaran Mather, 30 Aug

Donations are being sought by a GAA club which fell victim to a theft

incident.

The Community Coffee Shop at Kilbride GAA Club was broken on the night

of Tuesday, August 27 last going into Wednesday, August 28 last.

Diarmuid Haughian, the Club's Chairman, spoke about the incident in a

post on the Club's official Facebook page.

He explained that the premises had sustained €1,000 worth of damages,

and that €200 in petty cash was stolen, 'causing personal distress and

both property and financial damage.'

"It’s awful behaviour," Mr Haughian added.

The Club also said in a follow-up post: "For those asking how they can

help, our Community and Club coffee shop was broken into, damaged and

stolen from last night.

"Please follow a great suggestion from club player Kevin: 'At €3 a

coffee, if everyone in the group donates €3 today, then the club will

be close to recouping its loss.'

It is understood that the Coffee Shop has since reopened.

The fundraiser can be accessed here.

When asked by the Leinster about the incident, a garda spokesperson

said: "Gardaí attended the scene following a report of an incident of

theft at a premises in Kilbride, County Wicklow, which occurred between

Tuesday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

"A number of items including cash were reported as taken."
