A few weeks ago I bought a Kobo ebook reader, thinking that I would use it to write some custom apps for an e-ink display. Instead, I've been rediscovering the joy of reading books on a non-LCD/OLED screen. The combination of a purpose-built, distraction-free device and a paper-like display is really working for me. (Amazon-free is also a major bonus.)

Currently reading scifi. I really liked Andy Weir's "Project Hail Mary", and now I'm continuing with the Expanse series. I read Expanse book 1 a few years ago but for reason didn't continue to book 2 although I quite liked the first one.

I have an old Sony reader but unfortunately it doesn't hold a charge anymore (I even replaced the battery but it didn't fix it). Maybe I will look at a Kobo. I would love to use an ebook reader as a way to read more long-form articles, I rarely get through them undistracted when reading them in a browser or on my phone.

Love the Expanse series as well, except for one of the books which I thought was terrible. YMMV but if you find you don't like one of them, carry on because they do get better again. · 3 years ago

e-ink is a wonderful innovation that should be used far more than it is. e-ink ereaders feel like devices from the "good future" that is totally different from ours. They're perfect. They get out of your way when you don't need it, last for weeks on end, and do one thing really really well, allowing you to hold thousands of books in your hand all at once. The perfect device. · 3 years ago

I've been enjoying my own e-ink reader as a way to close tabs as well. I've written a small summary and posted the scripts involved here: gemini://lyk.so/systems/e-reader · 3 years ago
