I though should write timeline how I used Linux (and computer in general).
Computer
- I got **1st computer (with Win 98) in 2001**.
- Tested Win 95 (computer was flying), Me (creshed after install)
- Main OS Windows 2000
- I learned that there is more then Windows and DOS :D Tried to install MSDOS 6.2 and lost all data.
- Got 7 CDs with Debian 2.2 *potato*. "Playing" with black tty because I knew nothing :D
- **Mandrake 9.1 with KDE 3 - 1st my Linux** working distro and environment. Beril, later Compize and other awesome nice things - I loved it. Tried Gnome, fluxbox, openbox and some small window managers - everytime come back to KDE 3. Even tried tiling window managers but didn't understand how they works.
- Tried FreeBSD with KDE, tried OpenBSD (two times lost all my data)
- In ~2003 switched from Mandrake to Debian
- 2005 - everyone switch to Ubuntu or Kubuntu in my case
- 2008 - KDE 4 has come - I couldn't use it. Found Gnome 2 again - super - moving to Ubuntu.
- 2010 - Ubuntu got Unity
- in 2014 began looking for something lighter because laptop at that time was to slow for all new stuff. Began to switch to openbox. Later 1st time heard about tiling window managers and one friend showd dwm. I was excited but compiling each time when I want to tweak something was not the way I like. Tried to use Awesome because it was awesome :D Later **found Qtile**. As I was python programmer before that was super environment with all these hackable stuff
- After some time of use minimalist environment I found what distro it-self brings to much, so **in 2015 swithed to Arch Linux**
Server
- from 2015-02-19 KVM with Ubuntu
- from 2019-08-05 VDS with Debian
Mobile phone
- ~2000 I got my 1st phone Philips Diga (you could kill someone or open beer). It didn't have clock, so I needed to send sms to myself.
- Siemens, Samsun, Nokia, LG, Motorola - these old phones what were phones :)
- 2013 (or 2014) got 1st smart phone - Samsung s4 mini with Android
- after some time switched to custom CyanogenMod
- later some more samsungs (each 3-5 year) with newer Android version. No more custom ROMs
- after many years of use Nextcloud and moved from Google, learned F-Droid and similar stuff tried (in 2023) Lineage OS but later died phone and switch from Android didn't happen
- 2024 bought Pinephone to test Linux mobile. Still not usable as for main phone. Will use for testing/development Qtile in mobile
