Summer has been really kicking off up here in the north the last
couple of weeks. During the weekend I visited a friend who is living
in his girlfriends parents cabin out in the woods during summer. He
has been going big on gardening and is growing his own tomatoes,
chilis and various other stuff out there, and we have been helping
him out a bit while also enjoying the nice weather that we've been
having. I've gotten a bit sunburnt already, and even so I was taking
precautions by wearing a cap and sunscreen. We've also been having
some nice sauna-sessions, cooling ourselves of from time to time in
the nearby lake.
Yesterday was also our national day, and I celebrated by going out to a
park and eating some pastries and reading until the sun went down. Was
a bit bummed out by seeing that a small stage-building that has been
in that park from the 50s or something had been burned down by someone.
I've also been working on an old PC donated by a friend. He had an
old Pentium II MMX system that had been used in their summer vacation
cabin that they were now selling, so I got it for nothing. It's a bit
newer than the 486-system that I've been playing with during winter
and spring, but I installed a CF-reader and a network card in it to
be able to experiment a bit. I want to use FreeDOS on it as well,
but perhaps I also need to try Windows 95 and Windows 98 to get some
time-correct feeling out of it. It has a Voodoo-card in it as well,
so some glide-games will be pretty fun to try out on it as well. I
haven't gotten around to benchmarking it yet, but I imagine that
it will perform well in Doom and Quake of course. It also has a
CD-ROM-drive, which will open it up for some more demanding games
that were a hassle to get running on the 486. Maybe I will post
something about the benchmarks here to get some history for myself
as well. Fun stuff.
