And now a man approached a road long walked before.

This road had been long traveled ever since the man could remember. There was never not a road to travel or a path long beaten but instead the path was all the man knew. He walked endlessly over his whole lifespan never resting unless it was night or his legs gave in. He was seen by others but nobody much bothered for it was a rule to not attack those who dredged onwards. An unspoken rule.

In this dead world some called certain rules unspoken or divine. These people further spread these rules through word of mouth and of writings. One of these rules was not to hurt those who dredged forwards seeking something better. These people were sometimes considered lost or perhaps purposeless. They were always left alone. They were always welcome overnight in camps regardless of the camp.

It was expected and custom to gift weary travelers staying overnight a place to sleep along with what little nourishment may be left. If the traveler refuses you let them and mind your own work. The travelers were never picky but rather too little an amount of picky. They would eat vermin and critters if they were hungry enough.

The man ended up in a camp. The camp wore a cross on the front gate alone with angelic statues flanking the gate. This camp was built up around an old church and was therefore massive. The men at the front gate nodded to the man and opened the gate to allow entry. The man hobbled through and sat in the church on one of the many long benches. He was brought fresh chicken soup which he nodded gratefully for.

The man decided to remember how this all began.

A young woman sat a few rows behind.
