on the way back from church
chatter outside with friends and then
intrude as a friend
glance at the clock
women willow trees & a
squeaky chair with an old man in it
says hello to me behind
welcome friend don't let the
silence bother you
ok i won't thanks for
the warm welcome
pick up your hymn book
and improvise
you'll do fine man
how exciting ok thanks
it isn't warm outside
but the coffee makes me warm haha
may we sing hymn 160
meeting so many people:
phil who thought i
was from bucharest and who
smiled with more than his mouth and
karen and cathy who told a story
and who listened to the story and
matthew whose name i wont forget
and he won't forget my name and
sharon and liz's mom who weren't
as bad as liz said they'd be and weren't
actually bad at all but quite sweet
(to use jenny's word) and
bossman uncle paul who gave me a
pamphlet and
wayne who has my dad's name and
i didn't meet that one man but
i knew his name at least briefly and
everyone else i only know their faces
may we sing hymn 98
deep male hums
momentary fugue of voices
single voice
the clock is still
there & i'm still
here too
may we sing hymn 32
i'm invisible for a moment
i'm here
completely
ears
eyes
feet
fingers
